Study abroad scholarship opportunities with upcoming deadlines include:
Benter Initiative for Global Leadership
What: Up to $5,000 funding for Chatham undergraduates to study abroad on semester long Chatham exchange or partner programs /study in Middle East/Muslim countries.
Who: Chatham undergraduates with GPA of 2.5 or higher, 24+credits completed at Chatham Must return to Chatham for at least one semester after study abroad and serve as Study Abroad Ambassador.
Deadlines: Applications due 9/30 for spring, 3/15 for fall study abroad.
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
What: National scholarship of up to $8,000 for study/intern abroad program of your choosing. Funded by BECA at US Dept of State. No program length requirement.
Who: Undergraduate US citizens who receive a Pell grant. Application has 4 short essays, requires student to do a follow on service project.
Deadlines: There are 2 cycles per year. For programs in SP27, SU27, FA27, apply by 10/1/26. For programs in SU27, FA27, SP28, apply by 2/27/27.
Vira I. Heinz Program for Global Leadership
What: Receive up to $8,500 toward summer global experience of at least 4 weeks, and participate in community service and leadership development program.
Who: Full-time undergraduate, US citizen students of sophomore or junior status, in any major. 3.0 GPA at the time of application. Participation in VIH Program will be a student’s first academic experience abroad. As this award is intended for students with little to no prior international travel experience, true first-time travelers may be prioritized.
Deadline: November 2, 11:59 pm, for summer 2027.
Chatham Funding for a US Passport
What: Funding ($200) for a US Passport for study abroad.
Who: Chatham undergraduates who do not have a passport or need to renew a passport that will expire within the next year.
Deadline: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Funding is limited and grant program will close when funding is depleted.
